Resolutions that Work
I, Tony M. L. McCann, believe that economic growth expands opportunity for everyone. I recognize that excellence in public schools, including K-12, technical schools, community colleges and universities, is the cornerstone of successful economic development efforts. I believe that all Georgians deserve rewarding jobs through which they can support themselves and their families. I believe that business, government and employees, working together as partners, can strike a healthy balance in which the whole state can prosper.
I believe Georgia must continue enhancing our image as one of the most desirable locations to do business. I will support continued efforts to provide a skilled and educated work force, solid transportation and communication infrastructures, and quality of life that attracts and creates good, new jobs to provide a higher standard of living for all Georgians. I recognize that the majority of jobs and economic opportunities are provided by small businesses, and every effort must be made to ensure that governmental structures enhance their efforts to develop, grow and prosper these businesses. I recognize that wise stewardship of natural resources is essential for our continued economic growth. For example, tourism, one of our state's fastest-growing industries, depends upon clean beaches, unspoiled forests, and clean rivers and lakes. We must continue to expand wholesome entertainment venues and cultural amenities that capitalize upon our state's richly diverse history
Economic Development
Open Government
As, your State Representative, I believe that government belongs to the people of Georgia, and that they are entitled to observe its work. I strongly support Open Meeting and Open Records laws and support their continuing expansion. I believe that the mission of government is to expand opportunities for people to have maximum freedom, with minimal governmental interference. As your State Representative, I will continue to demonstrate that government can be both responsive and responsible.
I am troubled by recent efforts to close government to you and your family, and will fight to keep government open and accountable to the people of Georgia. I believe government works best under the watchful eyes of the governed. Governmental secrecy breeds deception and corruption. I will be uncompromising in insisting on open government.
